We haven’t yet had the iphone 13 lineup nailed down but that was never going to stop supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from weighing in on what we can expect from the 2022 iPhones.
In a new research note seen by MacRumors, Kuo says that the 2022 lineup will not feature an iphone tiny of any description, but rather two 6.1-inch devices and two 6.7-inch devices.
That would indicate the end of the 5.4-inch iPhone, although it looks like we will get one this year at least.
Kuo also says that at least some of the 2022 iPhones could get a new 48-megapixel cam as well, making the iphone 14 quite the powerhouse in terms of photography. The addition of such a cam is also thought to be joined by support for recording 8K video for the first time, too.
In terms of pixel size, the iPhone 12, iphone 13, and new 2H22 iPhone are about 1.7um, 2um, and 1.25um, respectively. We believe that the new 2H22 iPhone may support direct 48MP output and 12MP (four cells merge output mode) output simultaneously. With 12MP output, the CIS pixel size of the new 2H22 iPhone increases to about 2.5um, which is substantially larger than the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, and larger than existing Android phones, and close to the DSC level. We believe that the cam quality of the new 2H22 iPhone will elevate mobile phone cam photography to a new level.
Apple will likely announce the iphone 13 lineup this coming September with the iphone 14 models set to be announced September 2022.
